n EasyJet calls on agents to use web site



Easyjetis encouraging agents to book tickets through its Web site despite refusing to paycommission. The direct-sell carrier is planning topromote its on-line services to agents through a travel trade advertising campaign. The move is part of the carrier’s plans to double Internet bookings from a current 10% of sales to reduce costs. Some agents currently book EasyJet, but charge a service fee.



n starwood picks new access code for gds



Starwood Hotels and Resorts has chosen the access code WH on the global distribution systems for its new brand ofbusiness properties,W Hotels. Previously, the brand was listed under Westin’s GDScode WI. The first W hotel opened in New York in December and another 13 are due to open in the USover the next 18 months.



n carlson wagonlit appoints it president



CarlsonWagonlit Travel has appointed Len Blackwood to the newly createdposition of vice-presidentInformation Technology development for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Blackwood was previously just responsible for the northern European region. He will report to Dick Smith, senior vice-president and chief technology officer.



n queensland looks at tourism name change



Queensland Travel and Tourism Corporation is to change its name to Tourism Queensland.



The organisation has also designed a new logo for the first time in 20 years to present a modern image.
