EVER wondered what those highly paid bosses at tour operators do with their cash?
Well, they obviously don’t spend much on holidays, because they can get those on the cheap.
But Airtours deputy managing director Richard Carrick, a record producer in his spare time, has revealed he’s prepared to pay up to ú3,000 for a decent hi-fi.
“I’m in serious anorak territory when it comes to music,” said Carrick. “I don’t do things lightly, I’m a very discerning buyer and, unlike tour operating, I’ve found the best hi-fi producers are small companies.”
In a topical link to the recent Holiday Which?survey into the best tour operators, which slated the mass market operators, Carrick said the survey was “a bit like asking hi-fi anoraks like myself what they think of Dixons.”
Meanwhile, Airtours new director of overseas operations Glenn Wilkinson is taking his job seriously.
Before starting work in the office, Glenn is signing up to be an Airtours representative for a month to see how the workers manage in resort.
It should help get a better understanding of how the operator works, or perhaps Glenn just thought a month in the sun was preferable to a month in Helmshore.
