ABTA’S Tour Operators’ Council chairman Warren Sandral is stepping down as ABTA considers merging the body with the Travel Agents’ Council (Travel Weekly, January 6).
Sandral, who is quitting due to pressures of work, said it was vital ABTA becomes a more efficient decision-making body.
“Altering the committee structure is certainly one of the options under consideration,” said Sandral, who will remain on the board.
He also took a parting shot at some committee members. “ABTA must not allow a small minority who have large voices to distract from what is best for the majority,” said Sandral.
Another reason for the shake-up is to cut back on the huge expense bill, sources said. In 1999, ABTA is expected to fork out £25,000 in travelling expenses alone.
