Travel Weekly favourite in biggest industry poll

Travel Weekly has been voted by far the most popular trade newspaper in the biggest survey of travel agents ever conducted.

Stena Line asked 3,850 retail agents the question:”Which is your favourite trade journal?” Some 64% said Travel Weekly, while nearest rival TTG registered just 29% of the vote.

The survey was carried out between November 23 and December 4 1998 and was of a much higher sample than other industry research, which uses only a few hundred agents.

Stena Line head of sales GB Heli Salmons said the independent research, undertaken by a merchandising company, was done to find out which publication was the most effective for advertisers.

“We are obviously very pleased for Travel Weekly and this will reinforce our good working relationship,” she said.

Travel Weekly editor Jeremy Skidmore said: “This is a fantastic result for us. We have made a lot of changes to Travel Weekly and these have been well received by readers.

“But we are not complacent. We have many new plans for 1999 and I also welcome comments and suggestions from any readers. My contact details are on page 6.”
