Agents in Scotland will decide on January 27 whether to set up a breakaway consortium on the back of the Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association.
Roy Brabender, who is spearheading the move to establish SPARC – the Scottish Passenger Agent’s Retail Consortium – said a minimum of 40 agents would need to support the plan to make it viable.
More than 50 agents – mostly from the Scotway and Fairway consortia – backed the plan in December.
Brabender said it was unlikely any new consortium would forge other alliances.
n Northeast consortium the Association of European Travel Agents has merged with 80-strong Nova Travel Group. The AETA has 20 members.

“It is difficult to see what could be gained from alligning with anyone else,” he said. Midconsort and Global Travel Group are known to be keen on a tie-up.
