The Air Transport Users’ Council has lodged a complaint with the Office of Fair Trading demanding an official investigation into the conditions airlines attach to tickets.
AUC chairman Ian Hamer is especially concerned about codeshare flights.
“If things go wrong, your complaint is passed from one airline to another and you may find you have no legal redress at all,” he said.
“If the OFT does not tackle the issue, the AUC will seek a ruling from the courts to ensure airlines are more flexible when dealing with complaints from passengers,” Hamer added.
The AUC has also complained about check-in deadlines, flight cancellation policies and lost ticket issues.
A spokesman for the International Air Transport Association, which is responsible for drawing up conditions of carriage for airlines, said it was already reviewing the conditions.
However, he added the onus was on travel agents to explain some flight conditions to customers.
