Flight delays via mobile phone

Airlines could soon be automatically informing passengers of flight delays by sending personalised text messages to their mobile phones, according to e-commerce provider Red Message.

The company claimed a number of airlines had shown an interest in its facility to send messages to mobiles, which marketing and communications director Mandy Balla said was an inexpensive form of direct marketing.

“We offer a very inexpensive way for clients to reach their customers, whether they want to inform them of flight delays, the latest holiday deals or last-minute offers,” said Balla.

“We charge our clients for each message sent and the cost per message goes down as the number of recipients goes up but the mobile phone user receives the message free, no matter where they are or which mobile operator they are with.”
