New York woos tourists with range of discounts
THE New York Convention and Visitors Bureau has launched a number of initiatives following a changeof identity for the Big Apple’s tourism marketing agency.
Under the new name of NYC & Company, it is promoting a range of discounts and other incentives to woo summer visitors to the city from June through to August.
The promotion is called NYC: Your Ticket to Summer and includes reduced rates at more than 40 hotels with some offering free breakfast and room upgrades.
There are also special lunch deals at New York’s best restaurants and shopping discounts.
To increase the popularity of shopping breaks, the city has also abolished its 8.25% sales tax on all clothing and footwear costing under $110.
In addition, more than 50 attractions such as museums and performing arts centres will be offering special one-hour highlight tours throughout the summer. Spectacular free outdoor events, including festivals, street fairs, dance, theatre and music, are also being highlighted.

n The American Museum of Natural History at Central Park West has opened a $210m Rose Centre for Earth and Space, a new cutting-edge, science-based attraction. It is also the site for the rebuilt Hayden Planetarium.
