Agents urge clients to switch away from BA

AGENTS are being urged to switch-sell to another carrier to avoid charging their clients a fee to book British Airways.

The call comes from two independent agents who have written to their corporate clients asking if they are prepared to pay more to fly with BAor if they would prefer to fly with another carrier.

Scheduled Air Travel sales and marketing director David Hall said:”BA is suggesting that we surcharge our corporate clients for the privilege of flying with them.

The Chertsey-based retailer added: “My clients pay me to help save them money which I will be able to do by switch-selling and in the process earn more for myself.I will be recommending that clients go with other airlines.”

He has written to his clients, including Aston Martin and Warner Brother Studios, to explain the situation.

He added: “I think agents up and down the country should follow suit.”

Chertsey-based Travel by Design director Debbie Stapleton said she has already approached clients about the possibility of switch-selling.

“The response that we have had is that they would rather go with another carrier. I am currently checking the routes that our biggest accounts use and I am writing to other airlines to see what they can offer,” she said.

“We have been offered a deal for our largest clients by one airline which will give us a net deal on a main route to encourage them away from BA. We know there are better deals out there.”
