Teale calls for inquiry into Peel proposal
Humberside International Airport is calling for a public inquiry into Liverpool airport owners Peel Holdings’ plans to launch a commercial airport at RAFFinningley, near Doncaster.Peel has submitted a planning application to the local council to start construction on the airport later this year, which would handle 275,000 customers in 2001.
Airtours and Thomson are believed to be interested in launching flights from the airport next summer.
Humberside chairman David Teale argues that the airport would not attract new routes to the region but merely redistribute the air services already established at other airports in Yorkshire and Humberside.
“What the regions’ businesses and travellers need is not another runway, but an increase in the number of airlines and destinations,”he added.
