Award pays tribute to young business leaders
A NEW award to recognise the outstanding achievements of young business leaders will be unveiled on Wednesdayby the British Travel Industry Hall of Fame at its annual dinner at The Savoy in London.The award is sponsored by British Airways and carries a prize of £3,000 for the winner, who will be announced at the dinner, and £500 for each of the others on the shortlist.
The Young Manager of the Year will be someone who has created a major impact on the performance of his or her business and must have been 35 years old or younger on December 31 1999.
Over fifty managers were nominated and the final shortlist of four are British Midland supply chain development manager Javid Karim; JMC marketing director Lindsey Allardyce; Granada Little Chef and Travelodge director Travelodge operations Amanda Thomas; and Savoy Hotel manager Stephen Blackburne.
The judges were Barclays Private Equity managing director Stephen Welton; Bradford and Bingley chief executive Chris Rodrigues and British Airways general manager UKand Ireland Christopher Pilling. Chairman of the judges Roger Davies, formerly of Airtours, said:”The quality of all the finalists was absolutely outstanding. It was a very difficult decision to pick a winner.”
