Bath ‘favourite’ to take over as ABTA president

BATH Travel joint managing director Stephen Bath is favourite to become the new ABTA president after gaining the support of outgoing chief Steven Freudmann and former Tour Operators’ Council chairman Warren Sandral.

Bath will go head to head with Amathus Holidays director and Multiple Travel Agents’ Association chairman Brian Axon-Boyes.

As Travel Weekly went to press, only he and Bath had declared their hand.

Bath said he was asked by Freudmann to stand but denied rumours he would quit after a year, enabling Freudmann to return under ABTA rules. ABTA stalwart Sam Smith ruled himself out while ABTA aviation committee chairman Sandy McPherson said he too was unlikely to stand. The results will be announced next week.
