Air India adds fifth route from Gatwick

Air India is expanding its network from Gatwick with the addition of a fifth route.

The airline is to serve Bengaluru (Bangalore) from August 18 with five departures a week, taking its schedule between the London airport and India to 17 flights a week.

Air India will deploy Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on the route in a two-class configuration with 18 flat beds in business class and 238 seats in economy.

The carrier already serves Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Goa and Kochi from Gatwick and operates 31 flights a week to India from Heathrow, and six  a week from Birmingham airport.

“The service, which will further strengthen Air India’s presence in the UK, reinforces the strong economic and cultural links between India and the UK,” the airline said.

Chief executive Campbell Wilson added: “We are delighted to offer our guests convenient, non-stop flights between Bengaluru and London Gatwick.

“This new route caters to the growing demand for travel between these two important business and leisure destinations, and strengthens our commitment to expanding our global network.”
