Amadeus reports ‘robust growth’ and €650m half-year profit

Travel technology company Amadeus reported “robust financial growth” in results for the first half of the year, recording a profit of €650 million, 20% up on the previous year.

Amadeus air distribution revenue – representing third-party sales of airline tickets – rose by 10.7% to just above €1.5 billion in the six months to the end of June and group revenue by 13% to €3.05 billion.

The company’s revenue from airline IT increased by almost 18% on the first half of 2023 to €1.06 billion, and its hospitality and other revenue rose by 13% to €485 million giving the group an operating profit of €871 million.

The number of air passengers boarded through Amadeus systems in the six months increased by 13.9% year on year to more than one billion, and both Amadeus’ hospitality and payments technology divisions “delivered double-digit growth rates”.

Airline bookings via Amadeus distribution systems increased by 2.9% to 242 million in the first half of the year “on the back of a normalisation in global air traffic growth” with revenue per booking up 7.6% year on year.

Luis Maroto, Amadeus president and chief executive, said: “We continued to grow at a double-digit pace throughout the first half of the year and remain confident in our outlook for 2024.

“We are at the forefront of airline retailing transformation and are advancing decisively on NDC [new distribution capability technology) to strengthen our position as the leading enabler of indirect airline distribution.”

He added: “We were pleased to announce a strategic partnership with hospitality group Accor which will implement our next-generation, cloud-based Central Reservation System (ACRS) for its extensive portfolio of properties.”

“We continued advancing our NDC strategy” with NDC content made available through the Amadeus Travel Platform.”

The company reported an increase in net debt of €454 million year on year to close to €2.6 billion.
