BA adds Portland route to expanded US network

British Airways is ramping up its US route network this summer, taking its direct US routes to London to 26.  Tomorrow

Portland became the latest US destination served by British Airways as transatlantic services are ramped up for the summer.

The new route, being operated five times a week by Boeing 787 Dreamliner, brings the total of direct US routes from London up to 26.

The Portland inaugural came as flights were relaunched to Pittsburgh four times a week

A new, daytime flight from Newark Liberty International airport to Heathrow added a third daily frequency on the route to support the return of business travel.

This summer also marks the return of daily direct flights to San Jose, California, on June 13; and the return of 469-seat Airbus A380s to more North American airports.

Chicago and Vancouver were the latest cities to be served by the superjumbo last week, while Dallas Fort Worth will be served by one of 12 A380s in the BA fleet for the first time from July 1.

Networks and alliances director Neil Chernoff said: “This summer British Airways will be flying from 26 US cities to London and we’re very excited to be adding Portland to our list of transatlantic destinations.

“Not only are we the only airline to offer direct flights from Portland to London, but this new route also opens a wide variety of connections for our customers.

“Through Alaska Airlines, our Oneworld partner, British Airways will offer codeshare connections to several destinations operated by Alaska Airlines from Portland.”
