Birmingham airport strikes suspended after new pay offer

Strike action at Birmingham airport has been suspended to allow a new pay offer to be considered.

The indefinite strike by more than 150 security officers and terminal technicians had been due to start on Tuesday, July 18.

But trade union Unite said the action has been suspended to allow members to be balloted on an improved offer from employer Birmingham Airport Limited.

Unite regional officer Sulinder Singh said: “Unite’s members have agreed to suspend strike action while they are balloted on the new offer. We will be making no further comment until the result of the ballot is announced.”

If the offer is rejected, Unite said, indefinite strike action will begin on Tuesday, August 1.

The airport confirmed that strike action, which had been due to start today, has been suspended until August 1.

“All customers are advised to arrive in line with their airline’s check in opening time,” the airport added.
