Budget airline Play adds route to Orlando via Iceland

Icelandic low-cost carrier Play has launched a service to Orlando, with an introductory one-way fare from Stansted priced at £149, when booked as part of a round-trip.

The first flight departs on September 30 and the standard one-way fare will cost from £169 after February 28.

The new service has been launched as part of Play’s winter schedule, which runs from September 30, 2022, to April 23, 2023.

The low-cost carrier’s flights will operate via Iceland and services from Stansted depart on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Flights to Orlando from Stansted will take 12 hours 40 minutes, and Play said it will be the only carrier to connect the two airports.

The flights from Orlando to Stansted will run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with an elapsed time of 12 hours and 15 minutes.

The low-cost carrier said the Orlando service will also cater for “strong demand” from Scandinavian travellers looking for winter sun in the US.

Play will add a new Airbus A321 neo LR to its fleet to operate its flights between Europe and Orlando.

Last month, the airline announced it will start serving New York Stewart International Airport in June.

Birgir Jónsson, Play chief executive, said: “Play is strategically growing its presence in the United States, and our decision to add the addition of this route to our winter schedule is driven by increasing consumer confidence in and demand for affordable travel.

“We anticipate this route to be popular with European passengers, particularly from Scandinavia, seeking to escape the cold winter to experience Florida’s popular parks and resorts, as well as with American travellers visiting Europe to see family for the holidays or to tour festivals and winter attractions.”
