Cathay Pacific will operate a skeleton schedule in January in response to stringent Covid restrictions in Hong Kong, according to reports.
The airline confirmed it would suspend cargo flights for a week to January 6, having previously said it would reduce its passenger flights schedule in the first three months of 2022.
Cathay has struggled to maintain its workforce after quarantine restrictions for crew were extended, the Associated Press and BBC reported.
The BBC said Cathay was yet to provide details on the number of flights impacted by the schedule changes, but it is not the only Asian airline to face challenges from ‘zero-Covid’ policies in the region.
A Capa Centre for Aviation webinar earlier this month was told the policies and vaccine inequity had led international air traffic to languish far behind the rest of the world, with traffic in Pacific Asia in October at just 5% of 2019 levels.
