Eastern Airways selected for London-Newquay route

Eastern Airways is set to reveal a schedule for flights between London and Newquay after being chosen to operate the government-supported route.

The Cornwall airport confirmed that the regional carrier had been selected to re-introduce flights under a Public Service Obligation (PSO) agreement.

Which London airport will be served has not yet been disclosed.

However, the award will secure a year-round multi-day service to London for the next four years.

A previous year-round link was provided by Flybe under a PSO arrangement prior to the collapse of the airline in March 2020. Summer-only flights by British Airways and EasyJet have ended.

Newquay airport said: “We can confirm that the decision was taken on the reintroduction of the PSO route between Newquay and London last week and we are now working with Cornwall Council, the Department for Transport and Eastern Airways as the selected airline on the final details and expect to make an official announcement regarding the schedule and sale of seats next week.

“The purpose of securing the service in this way is to secure the slots at the London airport and to ensure that the service provision operates regularly throughout the year, in recognition of the importance of this connection for Cornwall.

“We understand that many passengers and businesses depend upon this route and we would like to assure them that we, along with Cornwall Council and the DfT, are doing our upmost to ensure that a service is in place as soon as is possible.
