EasyJet relaunches flights out of Newcastle to Alicante

EasyJet has relaunched flights from Newcastle to Alicante after a gap of more than three and a half years.

The airline stopped flights from Newcastle to Alicante in Spain at the end of August 2020 when it cancelled all international flights out of the airport as part of cost-cutting due to the pandemic.

The relaunched Newcastle-Alicante route is operating twice-weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays until the end of October. The first flights restarted yesterday (April 2) with fares from £28.99 one way.

Other airlines such as Jet2, Ryanair, and Tui already operate to Alicante out of Newcastle.

EasyJet also operates year-round flights to Belfast and Bristol out of Newcastle, up to five weekly summer flights to Majorca and weekly winter flights to Geneva. It recently announced the relaunch of its Newcastle to Amsterdam route from September 5, 2024.

EasyJet UK country manager Ali Gayward said: We’re delighted to be relaunching our route from Newcastle to Alicante offering even more choice and connectivity to our customers in the North East travelling to Spain’s sunny coast this summer.”

The news was welcomed by Newcastle International Airport director of aviation development Leon McQuaid who said the move would provide more choice to one of the airport’s most popular destinations.

The airport has recently invested more than £20 million into the passenger experience, which has included a revamp of its security search area and catering outlets in the departure lounge. The airport’s executive lounge has also undergone a multi-million pound refit.
