Liverpool John Lennon airport is sending £2 million on new passenger facilities that will also create 200 jobs.
The investment comes as the airport expects a busier summer this year as it continues its recovery from the Covid-19 crisis.
A network of flights to more than 60 destinations across Europe and the UK are scheduled, with passenger numbers expected to be the highest since pre-pandemic 2019.
Airlines commence their summer schedules at the end of March plus a new Lufthansa service to its Frankfurt hub starting in May.
Work is now underway across parts of the airport terminal to enhance shopping and dining for both departing and arriving passengers, creating new and improved passenger facilities in time for Easter and the summer peak.
An Upper Crust baguette outlet will be opening in the departures area, while JD Sports is upgrading and expanding its shop.
High street bakery chain Greggs will be opening a store near the arrivals area, along with a new WHSmith unit that includes a Marks & Spencer Food To Go offer for the first time.
A number of existing retailers will also be re-opening in time for the Easter holiday period.
A new valet parking facility is being introduced, enabling passengers to drop off their vehicles close to the terminal, with airport staff parking their cars on site and returning them for collection when travellers fly back.
The £2 million investment in new facilities will also create a further 200 jobs at the airport, in addition to more than 200 vacancies employers at the airport filled following a recruitment day in January attended by over 750 applicants.
Airport commercial director Lucy O’Shaughnessy said: “It’s great to be opening units back up again and adding some fantastic new brands to the mix including Greggs and Upper Crust and we are really looking forward to welcoming back our regular passengers and hopefully many new ones too.
“These great new additions combined with the return of many of our popular existing shopping and food and drink areas will mean passengers have an even greater choice of quality passenger facilities in time for Easter and the summer season ahead.”
