Icelandair adds Covid insurance cover

Icelandair is to offer ‘Covid Plus’ medical insurance to passengers.

The comprehensive travel cover will enable instant payouts in a deal with tech-powered ‘XCover’ insurance distribution platform Cover Genius.

The rollout “is a timely response” that will give greater peace of mind for current and future travel bookings when booking “knowing that they’re covered if they get Covid-19 prior to or during their trip”.

Sales and customer service chief commercial officer Birna Ósk Einarsdóttir said: “As a leading international airline, our mission is to offer our passengers the best services both on the ground and in the air.

“Our integration of Cover Genius’ XCover platform into our booking process  means we can now offer our passengers and their travel partners peace of mind during their travel.”

Cover Genius EMEA head of travel partnerships Peter Smith added: “We have recently partnered with the likes of Skyscanner, Despegar, Booking Holdings, Intuit, eBay, Wayfair and others who have integrated XCover to embed insurance, including instant payments of approved claims, to make sure that customers get back on their feet quickly when things go wrong.

“We are very excited to partner with Icelandair, with substantial US bookings, who prioritise their customers’ safety and loyalty through the use of our XCover platform and we look forward to expanding our relationship to restore confidence for travellers all over the world.”
