A ground handlers’ strike at Luton airport has been suspended at the 11th hour to allow for last minute peace talks.
Members of the Unite union working for ground handling firm GH London were due to walk out tomorrow (Wednesday).
The workers, who undertake ground handling functions at the airport for Wizz Air, have already staged two days of strike action because of a claimed “breakdown” in industrial relations at the company.
Unite has called off tomorrow’s industrial action “as an act of good faith” following a last minute offer of talks by GH London.
But strikes scheduled to start from September 20 will go ahead as planned unless there is a breakthrough at the talks, he union warned.
Unite regional officer Jeff Hodge said: “Unite welcomes the opportunity to sit down with GH London and the opportunity to hammer out a solution to this dispute.
“If GH London is not prepared to address its serious shortcomings, however, the strikes scheduled for next week, which will cause serious disruption to flights, will go ahead as planned.”
