Luton airport recorded its busiest Christmas Day on record as it welcomed more than 12,000 departing passengers.
The end of year travel surge brought the airport’s 2022 passenger total to 13.1 million.
Alberto Martin, chief executive of Luton airport, said he is now looking ahead to a “landmark” 12 months which will include the airport’s 85th birthday and the opening of the new Direct Air-Rail Transit (DART) system that will link the airport terminal the Luton Airport Parkway railway station.

“It has been an extremely exciting 12 months for London Luton airport,” Martin said.
“Our teams have worked incredibly hard to deliver a consistently smooth and friendly passenger experience and this was reflected in the overwhelming positive customer satisfaction results that were achieved over 2022.
“Our focus now is to maintain our strong operational performance this year as we look forward to celebrating the airport’s 85th birthday and the landmark opening of the DART, reaffirming our continued commitment to growing responsibly and sustainably.”
