The Maldives has relaxed its Covid-19 entry rules so tests are not required for travellers – regardless of their vaccination status.
The change came into force on March 14 after the Indian Ocean nation ended its public health emergency for the pandemic on March 13.
It means pre-flight and post-arrival tests are no longer needed and travel-related quarantine is not required.
The UK Foreign Office advice says travellers to the Maldives must fill in a Traveller Health Declaration form 48 hours before departure to and return from the Maldives.
Travellers who are not tourists or resident Maldivians are advised to do a PCR test between the third and fifth day of arrival.
Wearing a protective facemask is still mandatory in all health facilities and in outbreak areas. Masks are recommended in crowded areas and on public transport.
Emilio Fortini, general manager at Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa (pictured), said the news is a “huge boost” for the islands’ hotels and resorts, making holidaying far easier for visitors.
Earlier in March, the country removed the need for fully vaccinated visitors to take a pre-departure test.
