Tromso in Norway is to become the most northerly destination to be served from Manchester airport.
The only major Norwegian city inside the Arctic Circle will be served by Norwegian Air and EasyJet.
The Norwegian Air service starts this week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
EasyJet will also run a twice-weekly schedule with flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays from November 19.
The flight time on the route to one of the world’s most northerly cities is just over three hours.
Airport chief commercial officer Stephen Turner said: “We’re proud to connect the people of the north to an ever-growing route network of over 200 destinations.
“These new services to Tromso are a really exciting addition and give people planning their next city break or adventurous holiday a truly unique option.
“Tromso is the most northerly destination available from Manchester and visitors will get a true taste of life inside the Arctic Circle.”
Meanwhile, a 412-room hotel has opened within walking distance of Manchester airport’s terminals.
The Tribe property is the Accor brand’s second in the UK, following the opening of a hotel at Canary Wharf in London in 2022.
