Manchester is to become the only city in the UK outside London to have a direct air link to Cairo.
Egyptair is to start flying five times a week from Manchester airport from July 15.
Egypt’s capital has not been served from Manchester since the summer of 2015.
Flights using 154-passenger Boeing 737-800NG aircraft will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Airport managing director Chris Woodroofe said: “Having a direct route to Cairo is fantastic news for travellers in our region, giving them a straightforward means of visiting one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
“This link also offers businesses in our region access to a fast-growing market and adds another in-demand route to our growing network, cementing our place as the UK’s global gateway in the north.”
