Reed & Mackay commits to net zero initiative

Company-wide emission reduction targets have been outlined by business travel specialist Reed & Mackay as it targets net zero by 2050.

The travel management company will have two years to formulate its net zero targets and present them to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for validation.

The SBTi is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious targets to cut emissions in line with the latest climate science.

It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net zero emissions before 2050.

Reed & Mackay group chief executive Fred Stratford said: “We understand that we occupy a hugely strategic point within our clients’ value chain.

“This commitment to SBTi not only helps us ensure we remain focused on our own net zero targets, it assures our clients that they have chosen a travel management company that puts its sustainability plans into action.”

International development and sustainability director Christopher Truss added: “Over the last couple of years, we have had an incredible level of engagement with our clients on the topic of sustainability and have made ambitious investments to address the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions within the travel sector.

“We are proud to step up and make this commitment to SBTi. We know that several of our clients have done the same and we are pleased to align behind a collective mission to set meaningful and impactful emissions reductions targets.”

Susanne Bouma, head of partnerships and programmes, renewable aviation at Neste, Reed & Mackay’s partner for sustainable aviation fuel, said: “Business travel remains important for global business, but we need to work on reducing the related carbon emissions.

“Setting science-based targets enables companies like Reed & Mackay to accelerate their actions in responding to the urgent need for climate action.”

London-based Reed & Mackay became part of US corporate travel and expense management platform TripActions in May 2021 and operates as a standalone brand.
