Singapore to relax most Covid travel curbs

Most travel Covid travel restrictions are to be lifted by Singapore on April 1.

The complex Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VLT) scheme involving dedicated flights for double jabbed passengers and multiple tests will be abolished

Travellers will no longer be required to undergo a self-administered rapid antigen test within 24 hours of arrival in Singapore.

However, they must still take a pre-departure test within two days before heading to Singapore and obtain a negative test result.

Short-term visitors must be fully vaccinated and carry proof but they will no longer need to apply for a Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP) or quarantine on arrrival.

“Singapore is taking a major step forward to restore air connectivity to the world, to rebuild and reclaim Singapore’s position as a premier air hub,” authorities said.

The new framework “will facilitate a safe and seamless travel experience for Singapore residents and visitors to Singapore”.

The Singapore government added: “The airport community is gearing up for higher traffic volumes to ensure smooth and good traveller experience.

“In line with making travel more seamless and convenient for travellers, airport operations will also be streamlined and adjusted.

“Even as we transition to the new Vaccinated Travel Framework, we will preserve our capacity and capabilities to respond quickly if the Covid-19 situation changes and stand ready to adjust our border measures with the appropriate safeguards to ensure public health.”

Singapore Tourism Board northern and south-western Europe area director Michael Rodriguez said: “The latest easing of travel restrictions is a really positive step towards Singapore’s tourism recovery.

“As the entry process into Singapore becomes even more seamless, we look forward to welcoming more visitors from the UK to safely enjoy reimagined experiences; be it our world class foodie scene, the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix or sharing in the excitement of Gardens by the Bay’s 10th anniversary this year.”
