Stansted expects travel boost with Valentine’s Day and start of half term

Stansted expects one of the busiest weeks of the year so far with 830,000 passengers due to travel during February half-term.

The airport is expecting a boost in passengers over the next 10 days, with tomorrow (Friday) set to kick off the rush at the start of the school holidays but also Valentine’s Day.

The Canary Islands, southern Spain, Turkey and Dubai are among the most popular winter sun destinations with Geneva, Chambery, Turin, Innsbruck and Zurich the top gateways for ski breaks.

Edinburgh, Vienna, Amsterdam, Dublin and Barcelona are some of the most city break destinations in demand this month.

The expected 830,000 passengers between February 14-23 include 430,000 arriving and 400,000 departing.

Airport operations director Nick Millar said: “As we head into the busiest week of the year so far, our teams are ready to make sure every journey gets off to a flying start.

“We recommend passengers check with their airline on the best arrival time, usually two to three hours before departure.

“To avoid any heartbreak at security, make sure to check up on security rules, like the 100ml liquid limit for hand luggage, and have items packed in clear plastic bags.

“And, take a moment to check for any travel disruption before heading out, so you can avoid any surprises along the way.”
