Start of summer boosts Singapore Airlines carryings

The start of the summer travel peak saw a hike in Singapore Airlines passenger carryings rise in June.

SIA and low cost offshoot Scoot reported strong passenger traffic and load factors across all regions.

“This was due to the robust demand for air travel during the mid-year school holidays and the start of the summer travel season,” the Asian airline group said.

The sister airlines carried a combined 2.9 million passengers during the month, representing a rise of 50.4% over June 2022.

SIA flew almost 1.9 million passengers in the month, an increase of 35% year-on-year, with Scoot accounting for the remainder.

SIA and Scoot posted record monthly load factors of 89.7% and 93.6% respectively.

Overall group passenger traffic grew 34.8% year-on-year, outpacing increased capacity of 27.2% compared to a year ago.

This led to the passenger load factor rising by 5.1 percentage points to reach a monthly record of 90.6%.

SIA and Scoot posted record monthly load factors of 89.7% and 93.6% respectively.

Scoot resumed services to Changsha and Wuhan in China in the month.

The group’s passenger network covered 116 destinations in 36 countries and territories by the end of June.

SIA served 74 destinations, while Scoot served 65.
