Tui signs menopause pledge to support colleagues’ wellbeing

Tui has signed the Wellbeing of Women Menopause Pledge to demonstrate its commitment to supporting colleagues who may be directly or indirectly affected by the menopause.

The pledge is in addition to the Menopause Awareness Guidelines that have been put in place for the 11,000-strong workforce.

The Wellbeing of Women charity says more than 2,000 employers, including the BBC, Tesco and Royal Mail, have signed the pledge “to take positive action to make sure everyone going through the menopause is supported”.

Julie Tindale, Tui UK and Ireland HR director, said: “At Tui we have a responsibility to our colleagues to ensure they are treated fairly and with dignity and respect in their working environments.

“The menopause impacts so many people in our organisation from women who are experiencing symptoms to those who are trying to understand the best way to support their colleagues or family members.

“We have built a strong network of over 340 colleagues who have come together to provide support to each other in the Tui Menopause Network.

“This group has been vital in driving forward the menopause awareness guidelines and giving those impacted a voice.”

The Menopause Awareness Guidelines include guides for managers and colleagues, advice sheets, links to professional support and access to the health and wellbeing tool available to everyone who works at Tui.

The Tui Menopause Network began during lockdown when colleagues living nearby decided to get together for a walk and speak about the impact of menopause symptoms.

They realised many people were feeling the same or had a friend or family member in the same situation.

The network has hosted events in the virtual ‘Menopause Lounge’, welcomed guest speakers, changed the internal stigma about menopause and driven change within Tui.

Changes led by the Menopause Network include breathable fabrics for uniforms worn by airline and retail colleagues, virtual GP services to speak to specialist medical professionals, open forums with senior leaders to discuss the impact menopause has on colleagues in the workplace and the creation of the companywide guidelines.

The next goal for the Tui Menopause Network is to gain the workplace quality mark from The Menopause Charity.

The charity says women aged over 50 are the fastest growing section of the UK workforce, and 90% of menopausal women say symptoms have an impact on their work.
