Canadian carrier WestJet will fly to Toronto next summer from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.
The airline will also reinstate its Glasgow route to Halifax, Nova Scotia, in May 2022, after the service was suspended in March 2020.
The airline plans to operate four Boeing 737 flights per week to Halifax from May 3.
The non-stop Glasgow service to Toronto Pearson Airport begins on May 21, 2022, with four direct flights per week.
Then, on June 2, 20220, WestJet will make its debut from Edinburgh with a three-times-a-week service to Toronto, on Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays on a Boeing 737 Max.
Derek Provan, chief executive of AGS Airports Ltd, which owns Glasgow airport, said: “This decision will be well received by the hundreds of thousands of passengers we welcome each year who have sorely missed the connectivity between our two countries during the last 16 months.
“Both the Halifax and Toronto routes are crucial steps towards the rebuilding of Glasgow’s long-haul network and re-establishing the airport’s dominant position in the Scotland-Canada market.”
Gordon Dewar, chief executive at Edinburgh airport, commented: “We know there is huge interest in North America and Canada in particular, so welcoming a fantastic airline like WestJet to Edinburgh Airport is hugely exciting.”
The Scottish government moved Canada to its green list on Monday (August 30), so those arriving in Scotland are not required to isolate but must take a PCR test on day two of arrival.
