Wonderluxe Travel goes into liquidation after losing financial backing

Homeworking agency Wonderluxe Travel has gone into voluntary liquidation after losing the investment of a silent partner.

A member of Protected Trust Services (PTS), Wonderluxe filed to be wound up and joint liquidators working for Begbies Traynor were appointed on July 26.

The company’s homeworkers have joined Protected Trust Services on their own account and they and PTS are ensuring bookings are fulfilled.

Wonderluxe, a specialist in tailormade luxury travel, was founded in 2019 by Sheena Sumner who had worked in the travel industry for 17 years.

The company survived the Covid-19 pandemic and grew to a team of five in 2022 when, in September, it unveiled plans to take on self-employed agents as part of an affiliate programme. Sumner also planned to open a high-street shop.

In a statement, Protected Trust Services executive director Emma Collis said: “Sadly, the company liquidated due to the ill health of a silent partner who was an investor in the business.

“Wonderluxe had three homeworkers all of whom have set up their own independent travel businesses and become PTS members, which is fantastic for both them and Protected Trust Services.

“The homeworkers, with the support of PTS, will assist with the fulfilment of all future bookings to ensure all clients of Wonderluxe are able to complete their holidays as originally booked.”

Collis added: “The liquidation of Wonderluxe is extremely sad and we wish Sheena the very best for her future.

“We are extremely pleased that there has been no disruption to Wonderluxe clients during this difficult time and we very much thank our supplier partners and the homeworkers for their hard work and patience whilst this situation is resolved for the benefit of Wonderluxe clients.”

Sumner declined to comment

Wonderluxe Travel has no connection to similarly named but separate companies Wanderluxe Travel, based in Sawbridgeworth, or Wanderlux based in Wigan.
