Guests on A-Rosa River Cruises have started getting tips from a new team of “knowledgeable local experts”.
The line’s ‘Destination Scouts’ project is now under way along the Rhine and Danube, with the aim of making sailings “more authentic and immersive”.
The destination scouts share local knowledge on their given city with A-Rosa’s onboard ‘excursion expert’, who then passes the advice on to guests. In some cases, the scouts come on board themselves.

Jorg Eichler, A-Rosa chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be working with a host of knowledgeable locals who will share valuable insight into their hometowns as well as tips on local activities, culinary delights and much more.”
The project will run in key destinations on selected routes, according to A-Rosa, with the hope of letting guests “maximise their time ashore beyond the tourist trail”.
Advice will include tips on the best places to go shopping, restaurants and cafes, the “best and newest exhibitions”, as well as concerts worth attending.
By sharing such information, the destination scouts will allow guests to uncover hidden gems and explore with the eye of a local, A-Rosa says.
Eichler added: “Sharing our destination scouts’ knowledge with our guests means they are able delve even deeper into the city they are visiting.
“The Rhine and Danube feature some incredible cities bursting with unique culture, art and history.”
Among the cruises featuring destinations scouts are Danube Classics, Rhine Discovery Amsterdam & Rotterdam and Romance on the Rhine & Moselle.
