Aida Cruises takes delivery of second LNG-powered ship

Aida Cruises has taken delivery of its latest vessel Aidacosma – the line’s second ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

President Felix Eichhorn said the addition of the 5,228-passenger vessel to the line’s fleet was an important milestone on the journey to “emission-neutral cruising”.

Speaking at the delivery ceremony in Bremerhaven, Germany, Eichhorn (pictured, left) said: “With Aidacosma and sister ship Aidanova, two of the most innovative cruise ships in the world belong to our fleet in terms of sustainable cruising.”

The ship has a theatre with a 360 degree stage, a spa and 17 restaurants. There are also 23 bars and cafes.

Aidacosma will operate six seven-day voyages out of Hamburg starting from February 26.

Former German track cyclist Kristina Vogel will christen the ship in Hamburg on April 9.

Passengers booked on the two-week christening voyage to the Mediterranean can watch the event on board.

Ports of call during the christening sailing include Lisbon, Cadiz and Malaga.

Aidacosma will offer voyages from Palma and Barcelona between April 23 to October 15, 2022, before repositioning to Dubai for the winter.
