Ambassador Cruise Line will send its Ambition ship to a dry dock in Germany ahead of its launch in May.
The 1,200-passenger ship will leave Glasgow, where it was contracted by the Scottish government to house Ukrainian refugees, on April 1 and head to Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven after the shipyard won a pitch process.
The 24-year-old vessel will undergo environmental upgrades that will make it International Maritime Organisation Tier III compliant and in the top 10% to 15% of environmentally sustainable ships worldwide, the line said.
Ambassador said the refurbishments would make it possible for Ambition to sail “to the most environmentally protected areas around the world”.
A new livery and Ambassador branding will also be added to the ship as well as venue improvements and furnishing upgrades.
Double Olympic gold medallist sailor Shirley Robertson will christen Ambition in her role as godmother at an official ceremony in Newcastle on May 11 ahead of Ambition’s inaugural 14-night Hidden Gems of France and Spain sailing departing from the Port of Tyne on May 12.
