Aurora Expeditions has appointed an ocean conservation ambassador to educate the line’s passengers about protecting the planet.
Jo Ruxton, founder of UK-based charity Ocean Generation, has been hailed by Sir David Attenborough as “the person responsible for the plastic-free movement”.
Attenborough has said that the film A Plastic Ocean, which Ruxton (pictured) produced, is” one of the most important films of our time”.
Ruxton’s charity aims to “free the ocean of human threats within a generation” and ensure everyone feels part of the effort.
Ruxton will share her thoughts during onboard lectures on Aurora’s sailings, but the line said it would confirm details soon.

The line plans to confirm more female environmental sustainability experts who will work alongside Ruxton in the coming months.
Monique Ponfoort, Aurora’s chief executive, said: “By supporting Jo’s incredible vision to safeguard the ocean, we hope to inspire our guests to contribute sustainably to the fragile relationship between man and mother nature.
“Through her charity Ocean Generation, Jo’s goal is to inspire an inclusive global movement to restore a sustainable relationship between humanity and the ocean.
“This is entirely in keeping with Aurora Expeditions 30-year heritage of responsible and respectful expeditionary voyaging.”
Ponfoort said the line and Ruxton were “a perfect match”.
The line’s second ship, Sylvia Earle, is slated to launch in October this year.
Ruxton added: “It’s an honour to be appointed by Aurora Expeditions as its first ambassador. Together we hope that their new ship Sylvia Earle, named after the esteemed American oceanographer Dr Sylvia Earle, will be part of the ‘change engine’ that will educate and engage audiences across the globe.”
