Briton to captain Emerald Cruises’ new vessel

A British captain will be at the helm of new Emerald Cruises vessel Emerald Azzurra when it launches in January.

Jonathan Edwards previously spent 20 years at Holland America Line and the last ship he sailed on was Scenic Eclipse in the Red Sea.

He lives in a small village in Gloucestershire with his wife and two children.

David Winterton, global director of brand and marketing, said: “Captain Jonathan combines a true love of his craft with a wealth of global navigation experience.

“We are excited to match our incredible new superyacht with talented leadership.”

Emerald added that cruise industry veteran Petros Zarpanely will be hotel director on Emerald Azzurra.

He will oversee bars, restaurants, galley, housekeeping, laundry, guest services, shore excursions and onboard entertainment.
