Carnival UK to make senior appointments

Carnival UK president Simon Palethorpe has confirmed he will be appointing a new president of Cunard and a vice president of sales and marketing for P&O Cruises.

Palethorpe had held the role of president at Cunard before taking over at the helm of the parent company in June last year.

Alex Delamere-White’s departure from P&O Cruises to pursue a career outside the industry was confirmed earlier this month.

Speaking at Travel Weekly’s Future of Travel Spring Forum, Palethorpe said: “Alex is leaving the business. He’s got a good opportunity. We wish him all the very best. We will be replacing his role; we’re not quite ready to announce that as yet. But we will be over the coming weeks.”

He said he was currently “double-hatting” as both president of Cunard and Carnival UK at the moment, but admitted: “I’m not sure that’s a good idea forever.

“I’m managing it at the moment but, at some point, Cunard will need its own leader to be focused on that business and focused on those guests specifically – what their needs are and how we evolved that side of the business.

“So we’ve got nothing to say today, but certainly that that business will need a dedicated head as well.”
