Cruise.co.uk has reported a three-fold increase in river cruise bookings so far in 2022, compared to the same period in 2019.
The cruise specialist agency said interest in the sector had also increased significantly compared to before the pandemic, with 83% of 1,200 customers surveyed saying they had sailed on or considered a river cruise, compared with just over 50% pre-pandemic.
The most popular option for current cruise bookings is the Rhine, although the Danube was the most popular for those planning a future trip.

Tony Andrews, deputy managing director, said: “The advantages of sailing on a river cruise have unquestionably led to a steep increase in demand, with UK guests now much more likely to consider smaller ships for their holidays.
“With fewer people onboard and the opportunity to travel right into the heart of multiple eye-catching destinations, river cruises are a fantastic option.
“We’re anticipating their popularity will continue to grow with UK holidaymakers this year and beyond.”
