Danube departure kicks off AmaWaterways’ European season

AmaWaterways’ 2022 European season has begun with a Danube sailing on the double-width AmaMagna vessel which departed from Budapest.

To coincide with the launch, the line has today announced it will operate 21 ships across Europe in 2022, including five ships on four rivers in France and 10 vessels on the Rhine, Moselle, Danube and Douro, during the season.

An excursion to the once-in-a-decade horticulture expo Floriade in Amsterdam has been included in nine itineraries running between April 14 and October 9 this year.

Round-trip sailings Best of Holland & Belgium and Tulip Time both feature Floriade excursions, as does new itinerary Rhine Castles & Swiss Alps, sailing from Amsterdam to Basel.

River cruises on the Douro kick off with sailings on the AmaDouro and AmaVida this Saturday (March 26).

The line is set to operate a Rhine cruise hosted by a genealogist from Ancestry.com and 60 wine-themed sailings.

Outside Europe, the line’s latest vessel – AmaDahlia – will operate the 11-night Secrets of Egypt & The Nile itinerary.

Kristin Karst, executive vice president and co-founder of AmaWaterways, said: “There is incredible pent-up demand, with travellers anxious to pack their bags and start fulfilling their travel ‘must do’ list.

“A desire to step away from the day-to-day and reconnect with the world is driving demand for longer cruises, itineraries that include exclusive events.”

AmaWaterways last week reported “strong” demand from both past passengers and those new to river cruising.
