Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas touches water for first time

Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas has floated out and moved to an outfitting dock at the shipyard where it is being built.

The 7,600-passenger ship will remain in the outfitting dock at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, until next year.

During the float out, the ship’s dry dock was filled with water overnight.

The ship will be the largest ship in the world when it launches in early 2024.

It will be nine feet longer and two decks taller than the fifth ship in the Oasis class, Wonder of the Seas – the world’s current largest ship – which launched in spring this year.

Icon will sail year-round seven-night eastern and western Caribbean sailings from Miami which will all include calls into the line’s private island Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Other destinations in Icon’s debut programme include Cozumel, Mexico; Philipsburg, Sint Maarten, and Basseterre, St Kitts.
