Shipbuilder Fincantieri confirms order for new Crystal vessel

Crystal has finalised an order for a new “state-of-the-art” luxury ship for likely delivery in 2032.

The new vessel, like two planned sister ships, will be 61,800 tons and carry 690 passengers.

Confirmation by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri follows the exercise of the option granted for two ships previously announced in June.

Crystal owner A&K Travel Group (AKTG) confirmed plans in July to add four new ships by the end of 2029.

The group, which acquired the line last year after it entered bankruptcy under the ownership of Genting Hong Kong, will build two expedition ships and two standard ships to join Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony, which have both been refurbished under AKTG.

Confirming the latest order, Fincantieri said: “The interior design, developed by prestigious international architectural firms, will incorporate high-quality materials and craftsmanship.

“The vessel will feature all-suite accommodations with private balconies, alongside single-occupancy cabins, catering to solo travellers.

“The ship will also boast one of the highest crew-to-passenger ratios in this segment, ensuring exceptional personalised service and attention to detail.”

The company added: “This order underscores Fincantieri’s continued leadership in the high-tech shipbuilding sector, with a focus on innovative, sustainable units designed to meet the evolving demands of the cruise market.

“The group remains committed to next-generation propulsion technologies, such as LNG and hydrogen, alongside customer-centric design, further solidifying Fincantieri’s position as a trusted partner for the world’s most prestigious cruise brands.”

AKTG executive chairman Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio said: “Exercising this option and agreeing to build a third ship together showcases the trust and partnership between my family and Fincantieri, dating back to Sitmar Cruises and evolving through Silversea to our present vision with Crystal.”

Chief executive Cristina Levis added: “We’re pleased to bring an expanded fleet to our guests, offering even more ways to explore the world with the extraordinary service and style synonymous with Crystal.”
