Sports betting at sea to be offered by Princess Cruises

Betting on sports will be available on Princess Cruises ships when they return to service.

Passengers can bet on live events taking place during their cruise when ships are in international waters or when local laws allow.

Betting on all major US sports such as basketball and baseball will be available together with a “wide variety” of international events.

The line’s MedallionClass app, available for use on specific ships, will feature an Ocean Sportsbook betting feature upon approval to return to service in 2021.

The new sportsbook is part of Ocean Casino, a digital option that allows wagers be placed outside the on board casino on an assortment of games that includes blackjack, slots, poker, roulette, bingo and lottery.

Company president Jan Swartz said: “On Princess MedallionClass cruises our guests can stay connected with their friends and family around the world, and now with Ocean Sportsbook, they can also stay connected to their favourite teams and wager on a host of events whenever they sail with us.

“Taking a cruise vacation no longer means being disconnected from a big game, an iconic event or friends and family.”

John Padgett, chief experience and innovation officer for parent company Carnival Corporation, added: “A fully-connected guest experience now goes well beyond a superior wi-fi position, and Ocean Sportsbook reinforces the unparalleled position MedallionClass enjoys in the industry.

“Wagering is now seamlessly fused into the overall guest experience in both digital and physical interactions all powered by the Ocean guest experience platform.”
