Yet-to-launch Tui River Cruises has taken the “difficult decision” to operate two ships – rather than three – this summer due to ongoing “uncertainty around travel”.
The line, which unveiled plans to enter the river cruise market in 2019, is set to launch with a sailing on Tui Maya in Germany this weekend.
For its entry into the river cruise market, Tui bought three ships – Tui Maya, Tui Isla (pictured) and Tui Skyla – from operators Werner-Tours and Reisebüro Mittelthurgau Fluss.
In a post on Tui’s website, the line said: “Due to the continued uncertainty around travel, we’ve made the difficult decision to temporarily reduce our fleet size and Tui Skyla will no longer be sailing this summer.”
Affected customers will contacted by the line and will be given the choice about whether to switch to another sailing or receive a full refund.
“We would like to thank our customers for their understanding at this time,” Tui River Cruises added.
Like many river cruise lines, Tui has been forced to push back sailings several times due to the pandemic.
The adult-only line had originally planned to launch last summer.
