Viking adds third ship to its range of Malta voyages

A third Viking ship will sail roundtrip voyages from the Maltese capital city of Valletta this summer, as part of the cruise line’s Welcome Back collection.

From July, Viking Star will join Viking Venus and Viking Sea, and will sail a new 11-day itinerary, Malta & the Western Mediterranean.

It will call at ports in Italy and Spain before returning to Valletta.

Viking Venus will also sail a new 12-night itinerary, Iberia, the Mediterranean & Malta, departing on July 3.

The addition of Viking Star gives vaccinated passengers four new options for sailing in the Mediterranean between July and early October.

Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking, said: “Malta’s central position in the Mediterranean, as well as its historic sites and many cultural experiences, make it an ideal destination for travellers who want to explore the Mediterranean from the comfort of a Viking vessel.

“We are pleased with the response we have received thus far, and we look forward to introducing even more guests to this fantastic European country.”

Last week, Viking named its newest ocean ship, Viking Venus. It started sailing its England’s Scenic Shores itinerary on May 22 – the cruise line’s first voyage since it suspended operations in March 2020.

Other Welcome Back ocean voyages will take place in Iceland and Bermuda. European river operations will begin in July 2021.

• Viking is the new title sponsor of LTA summer grass court tennis events at Nottingham, Birmingham and Eastbourne.

The ATP and WTA events in June will be known as the Viking Open Nottingham, Viking Classic Birmingham and Viking International Eastbourne.

Players confirmed to appear at the events include Andy Murray (Nottingham), Johanna Konta (Nottingham and Birmingham), Venus Williams (Nottingham) and Coco Gauff (Birmingham).

This is one of Viking’s first major sports sponsorships.
