Small-ship specialist Windstar Cruises has begun a “multi-year, multi-million dollar” refit of its three sailing yachts.
The redesign and update process started on Wednesday with 148-guest Wind Star (pictured) and will be followed by 342-guest Wind Surf and Wind Spirit, which also holds 148 guests.
The Wind Star refit will take place in two phases, with the second in 2026, while Wind Surf will also be refitted in two stages – in 2024 and 2026. Wind Spirit will be “fully re-modelled” in 2025.
The work will include a full redesign of all public spaces including layouts, furniture, wall and floor coverings, lighting and custom art. Staterooms, premium suites and owner’s suites will also be fully refurbished including new furniture, interactive televisions and décor.
Stijn Creupelandt, Windstar’s vice-president of hotel operations and product development, said: “This multi-year, multi-million-dollar initiative is all about providing guests with updated spaces that inspire relaxation, foster connection and offer multifunctional needs of an intimate sized sailing yacht.
“Spending time on our yachts is all about moments of connection, whether that be guest to guest or guest to crew, and we want to make sure our spaces reflect that desire.”
The first stage of the Wind Star refit will include work on the ship’s lobby, lounge, spa and fitness centre and pool deck, in addition to updated artwork throughout and improved television and WiFi facilities.
The second phase will cover guest staterooms, main dining room Amphora and lunch and breakfast restaurant Veranda.
