An abundance of nature, a laid-back culture and expert wedding and honeymoon services come together to make Tobago the ultimate choice for a couples’ break

In the south Caribbean lies an island where white-sand beaches meet verdant landscapes, and nature and wildlife sit side by side with a relaxed culture and friendly locals. Tobago is perfect for couples looking to spend some all‑important quality time together.

The largely untouched island of Tobago strikes the perfect balance between tranquillity and adventure, from secluded beaches – three of which have been awarded a Blue Flag pilot status – to activities including paddleboarding and horse riding. And if couples are looking to tie the knot overseas, Tobago boasts a plethora of wedding services to ensure their special day is seamless.

Experience island life

With a rich and fascinating heritage, Tobago is the ideal destination for couples who want to soak up local culture. To get a true flavour of the island, visitors can venture to the historic colonial forts or spend an afternoon ‘liming’ with the locals – the term for hanging out and enjoying each other’s company.

Nature abounds amid Tobago’s forested emerald blanket. There are 260 bird species and keen-eyed explorers may spot the national bird, the cocrico, as well as the white-tailed sabrewing hummingbird.

Tobago’s northeast, which incorporates the Main Ridge Forest Reserve, is a Unesco Man and Biosphere Reserve – one of the world’s oldest legally protected tropical rainforests, and perfect for seeing wildlife.

Take to the sea for kayaking, diving and boat trips – an ideal opportunity to soak up the scenery from beyond the shoreline – followed by an afternoon of horse riding, to connect with each other and nature.

Choose a beach wedding

For couples thinking about getting married abroad, Tobago’s picture-perfect views provide a wonderful backdrop for a wedding, whether they want to say “I do” with the sand between their toes at the beautiful beach of Pigeon Point, or head north to Parlatuvier where nuptials can be shared on the beach or by its cascading falls.

There are a multitude of on-island services that enable couples to have their wedding their way, and they can choose a package for either a religious or non‑religious ceremony.

For those who are divorced, proof of decree absolute must be shown. Those who are widowed must show the original death certificate of their spouse.

Finally, couples will need to pay for their marriage licence, which can be obtained at the office of either the registrar general or warden.
