Celestyal Cruises hints at starting winter sailing programme

Celestyal Cruises’ global chief commercial officer has hinted the line will begin operating a winter programme if it secures some additional vessels.

Speaking on a Travel Weekly webcast, Lee Haslett suggested the line has the “potential” to soon expand its fleet, increasing on its current three ships, Celestyal Crystal, Celestyal Olympia and new vessel Celestyal Journey, which launches in September.

When asked if Celestyal will take on more vessels, Haslett said: “We have the potential to [have] even more.”

He went on to say additional ships will “not necessarily” sail around the Greek Islands and could voyage year-round.

“We don’t run a winter programme at the moment so that could be an option,” he said.

“We really believe that we can take what we do [in Greece] and move that to other parts of the world and that’s all part of our three and five-year growth plans.”

Haslett said the line is experiencing a “new dawn” after equity firm Searchlight Capital Partners acquired a majority share in Celestyal Cruises at the end of 2021.

“Certainly in the UK, the organisation feels like a start-up and we’re going to see development in the brand, the product and the markets we operate in,” he said.

“It’s definitely a new dawn for us.

“We have made a number of appointments and there are a lot of people joining the team to help us achieve our goals on the basis of this good investment from our backers to grow the business over the next three to five years. It’s so exciting.”
